Record group 93-45 consists of applications for examination for embalmer's licenses from the Michigan Dept. of Licensing and Regulation, Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science for the years 1901-1933. The series documents applications of funeral directors and embalmers prior to the establishment of the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors (1935), and its successor board, the Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science in 1949. These applications for licenses (or certificates) were filed with the State Board of Health. The information recorded includes name of applicant, residence, education, and number of years applicant worked as an embalmer or director of a funeral home. Includes photographs of the applicants.
